Just as with social workers employed by your local social services department, an independent social worker is registered with the HCPC and abides with the standards of proficiency and expectations to provide an exemplary service. A private social worker can undertake the very same tasks as their local authority counterparts, are members of the British Association of Social workers (BASW) and hold professional indemnity insurance & public liability insurance. Social Workers have always provided private work, which is becoming more prevalent in the adult arena due to the current climate of crisis within social care. Just as with private health care, a private independent social worker can provide the same services as their local authority counterparts, such as a needs assessment to determine eligibility in line with The Care Act, support planning and review of care provision, but without any inherent conflict of interest due to being fully independent and prioritising the needs of our clients. Everyone in receipt of social care is financially assessed on their capital and income by their local authority, to contribute toward their care costs. However financial assessments often determine a clients financial contribution towards their care provision, after services have been instigated and are already in place. However savings in excess of £23,250 equates to being a self-funder and therefore being liable for the full costs of care, without any financial assistance from social services. Some local authorities are now also charging self funders a fee to facilitate support planning/brokerage.  The advantages of a privatise care route is greater scope for personalised care, provided in an effective and expedient manner that ensures needs are quickly identified, without any undue delay, or being placed on a waiting list.
